What’s in Durant, Oklahoma?! JOAN JETT.

Monica and I went up to Durant, Oklahoma this weekend. We went to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts perform, but we hoped to find something interesting about Durant. I Googled “what to do in Durant, OK” and got exactly seven results: the Choctaw casino, a museum, a community theater, an old fort, Walmart, and something about driving south to Sherman, Texas. Even still, we were looking for Durant’s “big ball of yarn” or other random interesting feature.

Traffic around the casino (where the Blackhearts were performing) was CRAZY. We didn’t want to sit in that traffic, and we were worried that we’d run out of time, so we whipped out our magic phones we found an alternate route from our hotel to the casino. Little did we know that our back road adventure would lead us the Durant’s proverbial yarn ball: The quaint, one lane bridge.

But, I’m burying the lead. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts live! That’s the headline. Wow, wow, wow. They put on a great show, which was all about the music. They played every song I wanted to hear and more. Here are highlights from the set list:

  • Bad Reputation
  • Cherry Bomb
  • Do You Wanna Touch
  • Androgynous
  • You Drive Me Wild
  • Love is Pain
  • Play with Fire
  • Fake Friends
  • I Love Rock ‘n Roll
  • Crimson and Clover
  • I Hate Myself for Loving You
  • A.C.D.C
  • Everyday People

The crowd at the concert was, um, interesting. Lots of rockers, several mullets (including one spotted permullet and one spotted hermullet), old, young, country, rock ‘n roll, ecstatic, bored, and everything in between. For example, a couple sat next to us who were probably in their early 20s. The young lady was SO EXCITED to hear EVERY SONG! She was so great to be near because her energy and excitement only made every song better.

Joan
